About Jeroen

Inspired and seasoned by the analogue film era, my pull has always been to absorb life’s realness. In doing so, photography has been my personal medium for 24 odd years. In this process lies the duality to not only observe, but also to show what it was I observed.

Born and partially raised in Kenya in 76′ from Dutch parents, the UK formed the backdrop of my youth before starting my teens in the Netherlands. Moving back to the UK in my early twenties, I discovered a chemical dark room and witnessed an exhibition by Henri Cartier-Bresson

– both deeply changed my perspective altogether on how images can inspire. I went on to study photography in Munich, Den Haag and in Antwerp, then finally landed to live and work in Amsterdam. Here I have the environment and opportunity to work with people from all over the globe.

My history is filled with adapting to changing social structures and observing groups. Using a camera gives me the space to fully engage in social interaction, and in doing so also to be part of the creative life-energy.

So whether I’m re-creating life, or I engage and capture what I encounter – the realness of the energy is always the key to my visual stories. It is this realness that gives engagement, that radiates. It is a universal language, and moulded into a visual concept therefore has enormous potential to touch and inspire others.

My work is represented by Glyph | glyphstudios.co, of which I am one of the co-founders.
